Santuario de Fauna y Flora Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta

Coastal deltaic-estuarine mangrove Fauna and Flora Sanctuary of the Sistema de Parques Nacionales Naturales, in the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta complex (Magdalena; municipalities of Pueblo Viejo, Sitionuevo, Remolino, Pivijay, El Retén). Created by INDERENA Acuerdo No 168 of 6 June 1977 (23,000 ha) and expanded by MinAmbiente Resolución 0471 of 8 June 1998 to a total of 26,810 ha, protecting the mangrove ecosystem of the eastern sector of the ciénaga. Only conservation, recovery/control, research and education are permitted; every extractive activity — including sport fishing and spearfishing (pesca deportiva / pesca submarina) — is prohibited, on the sanctuary-specific basis quoted here plus the system-wide Parques Nacionales fishing ban (Decreto 2811 de 1974, Decreto 622 de 1977, compiled in Decreto 1076 de 2015). With Vía Parque Isla de Salamanca it forms the core zone of the CGSM UNESCO Biosphere Reserve / Ramsar site. WDPA 125.
