Lagoon of New Caledonia (general waters outside protected areas)

Free-diving (apnea) spearfishing with speargun/harpoon is permitted across New Caledonia's lagoon and reef waters, by day only, subject to the Environmental Code quotas, minimum sizes, protected species and the scuba ban. Most of the lagoon is a UNESCO World Heritage site. No personal licence required for non-professional fishing.

Daytime only (sunset-to-sunrise ban); no scuba/breathing apparatus; no explosive or compressed-gas devices; 40 kg/day quota (15 large pelagics); keep at least 150 m from water intakes and 50 m from marine farms, marked nets/gear and fish-aggregating devices (DCP); respect minimum sizes and protected species.

Year-round (day only); species-specific closed seasons apply (picots 01-09 to 31-01, mud crab 01-12 to 31-01).
