Kamaran is the largest Yemeni shelf island in the Red Sea (about 108 km2); coral-reef ecosystems surround the island on three sides and mangrove forests cover its northern parts. Conservation status restricts damaging extractive activities; no published authorisation for recreational spearfishing.
