Spearfishing is prohibited throughout Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary; only rod-and-reel and handline gear are allowed, and fishing/diving are entirely prohibited in the southern third (research area). A 22-square-mile hard-bottom reef sanctuary off the Georgia coast, about 19 miles east of Sapelo Island. Coordinate is the sanctuary center point.
