Critical nesting site for integrally protected marine turtles (leatherback, olive ridley) and habitat for humpback dolphins, sharks, rays and whales. Industrial and prohibited semi-industrial fishing devastate the area and unregulated local fishing is a documented threat; the marine zone is managed as a protected/restricted area.
