Marine protected area on the western (Saudi) coast of the Arabian Gulf, north of Jubail Industrial City, stretching from Abu Ali Island in the south to Ras Al-Khair in the north. Land area 760 km2, marine area 1,650 km2 (2,400 km2 total). Protects dugongs, sea turtles, dolphins, seagrass beds, mangroves and coral reefs. As an NCW-designated protected area it falls under the Article 73(1) ban on fishing in protected areas, which prohibits spearfishing within it.
