Volcanic island ~4 km off Béni Saf in Aïn Témouchent province on the western Algerian Mediterranean coast, classified as a nature reserve by the wilaya authority (2023, formalized 2024). The reserve covers about 70.15 km² across central, intermediate and transit zones. Ramsar site (No. 1961, inscribed 2011); habitat for the Critically Endangered Mediterranean monk seal. Protected-area status restricts/prohibits fishing.

The application file must include a medical certificate attesting physical fitness to dive and a civil-liability insurance contract for underwater fishing (Article 66, Decree 03-481).
