Spearguns may not be used in any lagoon, sound, or body of water 20 feet (about 6 m) or shallower in depth.

Apply to the Department of Environment. Speargun licence applications are accepted annually between 1 June and 31 August. As of the March 2026 Conservation Council decision, the DoE was preparing to (re)commence issuing and renewing licences.
