Designated Marine and Coastal Protected Area (WDPA 555542457, area ~339 km2) and a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar #1306, designated 2 July 2003). Classified as 'moderately restrictive' with species- and gear-specific fishing restrictions; managed for sustainable community use, so unrestricted spearfishing is not permitted.
