Hvordan spearfishing behandles i Fanar Ibn Hani Marine Protected Area.

Syria's only declared Marine Protected Area, established by Decision No. 26/T of 2000 (Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform), administered by the Public Commission for Fisheries and Fish Resources (Jableh). Located north of Latakia near ancient Ugarit, running from the Higher Institute for Marine Research northward to the Ibn Hani lighthouse; approx. 2.3 km long, 1.5 km seaward, total about 10 km2. Declared as a refuge for threatened marine species (Mediterranean monk seal and sea turtles reported); dynamite fishing and small-mesh nets are reported as prohibited violations. Coordinates are approximate, taken from the Ras Ibn Hani headland that the reserve adjoins.

Apply to the Syrian fisheries administration. Historically licences were issued by the Department of Fisheries / General Establishment of Fisheries; since Law No. 31 of 2008 the Public Authority for Fisheries is the competent body. No source documents a dedicated recreational speargun permit.
