Översikt
Hur harpunfiske behandlas vid Planned national park: Dissei (Desie), Madote and Shek Said islands.
Two distinct conservation areas proposed by Eritrea's Coastal, Marine and Island Biodiversity (ECMIB) project: the Sheikh Said / Green Island National Park (0.12 km2, near Massawa) and the Dissei-Madot Protected Area (Dissei 6.4 km2; Madot 0.04 km2), both selected for coastal-marine-island biodiversity conservation. Management and monitoring plans were prepared and all technical and legal documents were forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, but as of the 4th National Report to the CBD (July 2010) — and confirmed still true through 2023 — Eritrea has no formally gazetted/established protected areas, so no legal fishing/spearfishing prohibition is yet in force here. Any extractive-fishing (spearfishing) ban is prospective, pending formal declaration under Art. 13 of Fisheries Proclamation No. 104/1998. Coordinates are a representative center for Dissei island.
