Recreational underwater fishing in apnea is generally permitted in Brazilian coastal and inland waters where not otherwise restricted, with a valid amateur fishing licence and subject to species, gear, season and zone rules.

Apnea (free-diving) only; no artificial breathing apparatus; no sale of catch; threatened species (e.g. mero) prohibited; defeso seasons apply; conservation units and other protected zones excluded.
