Kiritimati (Christmas Island) lagoon and flats

Main recreational/sport fishing destination in Kiribati. Pleasure/sport-fishing permit required (obtained on arrival at Cassidy International Airport). Bonefish are catch-and-release only; daily limit of 5 fish per species. Lodges focus on fly and spinning; spearfishing is not part of the regulated sport-fishing offering. National rules (SCUBA ban, night-spearfishing torch restriction, size limits, shark sanctuary) apply.

Bonefish closed 3 days either side of full moon; no general closed season for sport species.
