Marine protected areas and reserved maritime areas (áreas marinhas protegidas e áreas marítimas reservadas)

Under Lei n.º 9/2022 (Arts. 15-17, 137) fishing and other prohibited activities are forbidden inside marine protected areas (fisheries-protection areas: fishing reserves, marine-conditioning areas, restocking areas; and environmental-protection areas: marine reserves, marine national parks, marine natural monuments, voluntary community-protection areas). Fishing in reserved maritime areas / protected areas is a very serious infraction. Each MPA is created and bounded by its own Decreto-Lei.
