Marmion Marine Park inshore waters within 1800 m of the mainland (Western Australia)

Marmion Marine Park runs along about 15 km of Perth's northern beaches from Trigg to Burns Beach. Clause 3 of the Prohibition on Recreational Fishing (Marmion Marine Park) Order 1999 closes the entire park to recreational fishing, and clause 4 restores only the activities listed in Schedule 4. Spearfishing appears in Schedule 4 item 3 but only “not less than 1800 metres from the high water mark on the mainland” and only without compressed air, so the whole inshore belt of the park — the reef platforms and lagoons that most shore-entry divers use, including the popular Mettams Pool and Marmion Angling Club stretch — is closed to the speargun. Inside the belt only line fishing (and licensed rock lobster, Roe's abalone, crabs and octopus-pot fishing) is permitted, plus shore-based line fishing in the Waterman Recreation Area. Sea urchin is excluded from the line and pointed-instrument permissions altogether (Schedule 4 item 9). The three sanctuary areas inside the park are separately closed to all fishing.
