South-west Corfu underwater archaeological site

Spearfishing, towed-gear fishing, mechanical shellfish harvesting and sponge fishing are prohibited in the declared underwater archaeological site off the south-west coast of Corfu. The declaring instrument — ΥΑ ΥΠΠΟ/ΓΔΑΠΚ/ΑΡΧ/Α1/Φ43/59538/3993, ΦΕΚ 1726 Β΄/24 November 2003, decision (4), signed in Athens on 3 November 2003 by the Minister of Culture alone — declares the area «προκειμένου να προστατευθεί το εντοπισμένο εκεί ναυάγιο ρωμαϊκών χρόνων» (to protect a located Roman-era wreck) and delimits it on an attached 1:25,000 nautical chart in WGS 84 by the points Α 39°21.480′N 020°05.520′E, Β 39°21.480′N 020°06.580′E, Γ 39°20.870′N 020°06.580′E, Δ 39°20.870′N 020°05.520′E. The map pin (39.35292, 20.10083) is the centroid of that published rectangle — instrument-derived, not a gazetteer point — so it should not be "corrected" later. The ban is also listed on the Corfu Port Authority’s prohibition register, whose rendering of the decision number («ΓΑΑΠΚ») is a register corruption; the gazette reads ΓΔΑΠΚ.
