Stewarts Point State Marine Conservation Area (California)

Sonoma County SMCA adjoining the Stewarts Point State Marine Reserve (1.21 sq mi). This is NOT a no-take area: 14 CCR §632(b)(33)(B) permits recreational take from shore only — marine aquatic plants other than sea palm, marine invertebrates, finfish by hook and line, surf smelt by beach net, and Section 28.80 species by hand-held dip net — so shore anglers may lawfully fish here. But 14 CCR §28.90 allows spear gear only to “Persons who are floating or swimming in the water”, which puts every one of those shore-only carve-outs out of reach of a diver: the area is closed to spearfishing without being closed to fishing.
