Wied Ghammieq sewage-outfall fishing exclusion area (Ricasoli - Xghajra)

Statutory TOTAL fishing closure under regulation 11 of the Fishery Regulations, S.L. 425.01 (consolidated, as amended up to L.N. 296 of 2025): all fishing - spearfishing included - and the collection by any means of any edible marine products are strictly prohibited in the sea off the Wied Ghammieq sewage outfall. The area is demarcated on the land side by two red-painted stone pillars, one on the Xghajra shore near Ras il-Gebel and the other under the Ricasoli Bastion, and on the sea side by two range buoys. Regulation 7 bars even fishpond-restocking permits here. The regulation remains on the statute book although the outfall itself was decommissioned when the Ta' Barkat treatment plant came online.
