Namibian Islands' Marine Protected Area (NIMPA)
Qué es esta zona
Resumen
Cómo se trata la pesca submarina en Namibian Islands' Marine Protected Area (NIMPA).
Africa's largest proclaimed MPA at the time of declaration (~9,500-11,800 km2), proclaimed 2008 and regulated by GN 316 of 2012 under the Marine Resources Act 27 of 2000. It stretches along the southern Namibian coast from Meob Bay (north) to Chamais Bay (south) and includes a buffer zone plus stricter inner zones. The regulation prohibits/restricts numerous harvesting activities: a line-fish sanctuary (silver kob/kabeljou and steenbras may not be harvested by long-line or line fishing from Meob Bay to Sylvia Hill within 6 nm), a rock-lobster sanctuary, prohibitions on purse seining, trawling, long-lining, kelp harvesting, commercial inter-tidal harvesting, and access to islands. Lat/lng is a representative centre point of the coastal MPA band.
