Georgia Public Fishing Areas (pole-and-line only)

Every Public Fishing Area operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is restricted to pole and line. Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 391-4-3-.09(5) provides that persons may not fish with any gear other than pole and line, as defined in O.C.G.A. § 27-1-2(51), at any public fishing area, and may not fish with more than two poles and lines. A speargun is not a pole and line, so spearfishing is prohibited on all of Georgia's PFAs. This is a gear restriction across a class of state-managed freshwater impoundments, not a no-take reserve; ordinary angling continues.
