Lake Norman (North Carolina) — spear guns expressly authorised

North Carolina's largest lake, on the Catawba River north of Charlotte. It is one of only three waters that 15A NCAC 10C .0407 authorises by name for spear guns: entry (46) Iredell permits spear guns in Lookout Shoals Reservoir and Lake Norman, and the other counties the lake touches (Catawba, Lincoln, Mecklenburg) permit spear guns in all their public waters, so the whole lake is open. Conditions: the season runs 1 July to 30 June (year-round); a licence conveying inland fishing or special-device privileges is required; and only nongame fish may be kept — game fish taken must be returned unharmed (15A NCAC 10C .0402(d)).
