Texas Community Fishing Lakes and state-park waters (pole-and-line only)

Texas allows a spear or speargun to take nongame fish in fresh water, but 31 TAC 57.973(b) restricts a whole class of small public waters to pole and line, which excludes a speargun. The class is: every Community Fishing Lake (defined by TPWD as "All public impoundments 75 acres or smaller located totally within an incorporated city limits or a municipal, city, county, or state park"); sections of rivers lying totally within a state park; any dock, pier, jetty or other manmade structure within a state park; the named lakes Abilene, Cleburne, Elm, Fort Parker, Mineral Wells, Pilant, Purtis Creek, Raven, Sheldon, Tucker and Deputy Darren Goforth Park Lake; Brushy Creek below the Brushy Creek Reservoir dam to the Williamson/Milam county line; Canyon Lake Project #6 (Lubbock County); Lake Pflugerville; the North Concho River from O.C. Fisher Dam to Bell Street Dam; the South Concho River from Lone Wolf Dam to Bell Street Dam; and Wheeler Branch (Somervell County). This is a gear restriction over an open-ended class of hundreds of small waters, not a discrete no-take area, so it is carried without a map pin.
