Tajikistan is a landlocked Central Asian country, so there is no marine spearfishing; only inland (freshwater) fishing in rivers, lakes and reservoirs exists. Recreational/amateur and sport fishing is legal and regulated under the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan 'On Fish Farming' (No. 220, 22 December 2006), with the order of amateur and sport fishing set by the authorized state body (Ministry of Agriculture / Mohii Tajikistan). Recreational fishers may fish in the waterbodies of all regions except protected territories, private aquaculture farms, other enterprises, and territories allocated to fishing clubs. Fishing in waterbodies of the protection zone of reserves (заповедники) by commercial subjects is only allowed by agreement with the authorized body (Law 'On Fish Farming', Articles 8 and 12). - Romit State Nature Reserve (Kofarnihon headwaters)nature reserve
State nature reserve / UNESCO biosphere reserve on the southern slopes of the Gissar Range in the headwaters of the Kofarnihon (Romit gorge), established 1959. Mountain streams here hold trout and marinka. As a specially protected natural area (заповедник), fishing is restricted/prohibited under the general protected-territories rule.
