Esperance Tanker Jetty closure (Western Australia)

A small total fishing closure at the seaward end of the Esperance Tanker Jetty, on the south coast. Clause 2 of the Prohibition on Fishing (Esperance Jetty) Order 1997 (Order No. 2 of 1997, s.43 of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994, as amended by Order No. 7 of 1998) prohibits fishing at any time in the closure and expressly overrides three commercial management plans, so it binds recreational and commercial fishers alike. Spearfishing is included. The closed area is defined by reference to the jetty structure: it starts 20 m from the seaward end of the Tanker Jetty, extends 50 m either side of the jetty's centre line produced through the “island” extension, and runs 50 m seaward of the navigational beacon on the “island”. The heritage Tanker Jetty this order measures from was demolished in 2020 and replaced by a shorter jetty opened in March 2021; DPIRD still publishes the closure as in force at the original location, so treat the mapped polygon rather than the present structure as the boundary.
