Point Quobba restricted area, Point Quobba Fish Habitat Protection Area (Western Australia)

The northern, restricted part of the Point Quobba Fish Habitat Protection Area, on the coast north of Carnarvon near the Quobba blowholes. The area was set aside by the Point Quobba Fish Habitat Protection Area Order 2004 (s.115 of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994), but the fishing prohibition applies only to the smaller “Point Quobba restricted area” defined in regulation 113D of the Fish Resources Management Regulations 1995 — from the high water mark at 24°29.075’S south to 24°29.619’S and out to 113°24.975’E. Regulation 113E(1) prohibits fishing in that restricted area, exempting only oysters taken by hand for non-commercial purposes and squid taken on an unbaited squid jig. Spearfishing is therefore prohibited inside the restricted area. The rest of the fish habitat protection area, south of 24°29.619’S, is not closed by regulation 113E.
