Conservation Area around the Xatt l-Aħmar wrecks (Gozo)

Conservation Area off Xatt l-Aħmar (Red Bay) on the south-eastern coast of Gozo, covering the scuttled wrecks MV Karwela, MV Cominoland and MV Xlendi. Spear fishing is prohibited, together with set bottom lines, trammel nets, gill nets and entangling nets, encircling nets, and demersal pots and traps; Off Xatt l-Aħmar is one of the five Conservation Areas where trolling lines (rixa) are banned outright. Entry and mooring are confined to vessels engaged in recreational or technical diving operations, after pre-notification to Valletta VTS on VHF channel 12. Listed in Local Notice to Mariners No 025 of 2026 (Conservation Areas around Wrecks).
