The stretch of sea surrounding Capo Colonne is one of the three zone A (riserva integrale) of the Capo Rizzuto marine protected area, defined by the decree of 19 February 2002 which entirely replaced the 1991 establishing decree. Inside it professional and sport fishing by any means, spearfishing, diving, bathing and navigation are all forbidden; spearfishing in apnea is in any case banned throughout the whole AMP by the 2009 regolamento.
