How spearfishing is treated at Fagamalo Village Marine Protected Area.

Village-managed no-take/restricted MPA on the reef fronting Fagamalo village, NW Tutuila, established under the Community-Based Fisheries Management Program. Fagamalo was the first village in American Samoa to designate a protected marine area (2010) and operates a long-term no-take area where fishing is prohibited. Within village MPAs only approved fishing methods are allowed; SCUBA-assisted taking, bow-and-arrow/crossbow, night lights, explosives and poisons are prohibited (A.S.A.C. 24.1024). Coordinates are the Fagamalo village/reef location.
