How spearfishing is treated at South Berry Islands Marine Reserve.
No-take marine reserve in the southern Berry Islands (Frozen Cay to Whale Cay, includes Diamond Cay), part of the Bahamas national MPA network; designated a no-take area 29 Dec 2008, gazetted 2009. Fishing and spearfishing are accordingly prohibited. Caveat worth checking locally: the WDPA record for this reserve (555592584) classifies its no-take status as "Part" rather than whole, so the precise extent of the no-take area inside the reserve should be confirmed with the Department of Marine Resources before diving.

Apply to the Minister/Director of Fisheries (Form 7); for vessels entering The Bahamas, application is made to the customs officer at the first Port of Entry. To use a spear, the applicant must request this on the permit application; when granted, the spear use is endorsed in writing on the permit by the issuing officer.
