Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Blue Hole Natural Monument.

Iconic ~300 m-wide marine sinkhole at the centre of Lighthouse Reef Atoll, declared a Natural Monument under the National Parks System Act and part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System UNESCO World Heritage Site, co-managed by the Belize Audubon Society as a strictly non-extractive, no-take area. Fishing, spearfishing/spearguns and any take or collection of marine life are prohibited (only diving/snorkelling are permitted), as in all Belize marine protected areas.
