How spearfishing is treated at Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve.
Marine reserve ~36 km off Placencia (~25,980 acres), part of the Southern Belize Reef Complex, with a no-take zone around the Silk Cayes (since 2003) and a whale-shark/reef-fish spawning aggregation conservation zone. Spear guns and SCUBA harvesting are prohibited within Belize marine reserves.
