Parque Marino Francisco Coloane

Chile's first marine park (created by Art. 3 of D.S. N°276/2003, Ministerio de Defensa Nacional/Subsecretaría de Marina), carved out inside the larger Área Marina y Costera Protegida Francisco Coloane south of Isla Carlos III in the Strait of Magellan, to protect humpback whale feeding grounds and Magellanic penguin / South American sea lion breeding colonies (1,506 ha; IUCN category Ia per SIMBIO/MMA). As a Parque Marino under Chilean law, no activity is allowed inside except authorized observation/research/study — extractive fishing including spearfishing is prohibited. Coordinate is the 'Zona Núcleo' vertex (point I) given in the decree's own coordinate table.
