Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Mvassa Marine Protected Area.

Marine protected area established 2022, located south of Pointe-Noire (in the Mvassa beach area toward Djeno), covering about 24 km2. An important nesting ground for marine turtles, particularly green turtles, and one of Congo's first three MPAs. Fishing is restricted; spearfishing should be treated as prohibited within the reserve. Center point set on the Mvassa coastal beach south of Pointe-Noire.

Submit a written application to the maritime fishing authority ('autorité de la pêche maritime') stating organiser name/address, participants' names, the fishing zone and site, and the fishing means used (Art. 19).
