Under Resolución 170 de 1998, the sole stretch of the Departamento Archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina where spearfishing (pesca con arpón) is authorized runs along the west coast of San Andrés Island from the head of the airport runway (Aeropuerto Internacional Gustavo Rojas Pinilla) to Ensenada del Cove, reserved for traditional/artisanal free-diving fishers with the fishing authority's permission; spearfishing is prohibited everywhere else in the archipelago.
