What this zone is

Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Santuario de Fauna y Flora Malpelo.

Oceanic Pacific marine sanctuary ~500 km west of Buenaventura. It is the largest no-fishing zone in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (>850,000 ha), a no-take area where all fishing — including sport/spearfishing — is banned. As a unit of the National Natural Parks System, the fishing ban rests on Law 2 of 1959 (art. 13) and Decree 1076 of 2015; AUNAP Resolution 0549/2022 recreational rules do not apply inside protected areas. Already named in the file's catch-all PNN prohibition zone; added here as a discrete mappable point.
