Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Natural da Baía da Murdeira (Sal).

Marine nature reserve on the southwest coast of Sal island, covering about 182 ha of land and 5,925 ha of sea; a sea-turtle and seabird nesting area. Part of Cabo Verde's National Network of Protected Areas (Decreto-Lei n.º 3/2003). Fishing, including spearfishing, is restricted/prohibited under the area's protective regime; under Decreto-Lei n.º 54/2005 Art. 12 spearfishing is prohibited in areas where banned by their own legislation.

License requiredvia Direcção-Geral das Pescas (Directorate-General of Fisheries)

Apply to the Direcção-Geral das Pescas (or a delegated entity) with a licence application, identity document (or club/association registration), and, for renewals, the prior licence. Minors under 18 need notarised guardian authorisation. Fees set by joint ministerial portaria. Clubs, sport associations and tourism operators may hold licence quotas (Arts. 20.º, 22.º, 25.º).
