How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Natural da Costa da Fragata (Sal).
Coastal nature reserve on the east coast of Sal (a 4.7 km sandy beach SE of Santa Maria, at the southern end of Serra Negra), covering ~3.46 km² of land and ~23.47 km² of ocean; loggerhead turtle nesting site. Part of the National Network of Protected Areas (Decreto-Lei n.º 3/2003); fishing/spearfishing restricted under its protective regime.

Whether you need a license to spearfish here, and how to get one.
Apply to the Direcção-Geral das Pescas (or a delegated entity) with a licence application, identity document (or club/association registration), and, for renewals, the prior licence. Minors under 18 need notarised guardian authorisation. Fees set by joint ministerial portaria. Clubs, sport associations and tourism operators may hold licence quotas (Arts. 20.º, 22.º, 25.º).
