Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Natural Integral do Ilhéu de Curral Velho (Boa Vista).
Integral natural reserve (Reserva Natural Integral) off the south-east coast of Boa Vista, declared by Decreto-Regulamentar n.º 16/2013, de 9 de maio, under Decreto-Lei n.º 3/2003. As an integral reserve it protects the whole ecosystem and excludes extractive use including fishing (a no-take zone); WDPA classifies it as a marine/coastal protected area. Spearfishing is prohibited in areas banned by their own legislation (Decreto-Lei n.º 54/2005, Art. 12).

Whether you need a license to spearfish here, and how to get one.
Apply to the Direcção-Geral das Pescas (or a delegated entity) with a licence application, identity document (or club/association registration), and, for renewals, the prior licence. Minors under 18 need notarised guardian authorisation. Fees set by joint ministerial portaria. Clubs, sport associations and tourism operators may hold licence quotas (Arts. 20.º, 22.º, 25.º).
