Overview

How spearfishing is treated at George Town Marine Park (Grand Cayman).

No-take Marine Park under the National Conservation Act (enhanced Marine Parks, in force 2021). Taking any marine life (alive or dead) is prohibited and spearguns, pole spears, fish traps and nets are totally prohibited — spearfishing is banned.

License requiredvia National Conservation Council / Marine Conservation Board (Department of Environment)

Apply to the Department of Environment. Speargun licence applications are accepted annually between 1 June and 31 August. As of the March 2026 Conservation Council decision, the DoE was preparing to (re)commence issuing and renewing licences.
