Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Parque Nacional Monte Cristi (marine sector).

National park (~550 km2 of land and marine ecosystems) in Monte Cristi Province on the NW coast, extending from the Haiti border to Punta Rucia, including coastal lagoons, mangroves, offshore cays (Cayos Siete Hermanos) and coral reefs. Under Art. 43 of Law 307-04, fishing inside protected-area limits requires a Ministry of Environment permit; spearfishing generally prohibited. Coordinates are the park center per Wikipedia (19 46 37 N 71 42 08 W).

Apply to CODOPESCA (Consejo Dominicano de Pesca y Acuicultura). Each licence states the fishing activity, permitted gear types and area of operation. Licences are non-transferable. In practice, charter/dive operators can arrange a recreational licence on a visitor's behalf.
