Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Parc national de Gouraya - zone marine (Gouraya National Park marine zone, Béjaïa).

National park at Béjaïa on the eastern Algerian Mediterranean coast, created by Decree No. 84-327 of 3 November 1984, with a marine zone of 7,842 ha added to its 2,080 ha terrestrial area and a 12 km marine coastline; includes Cap Carbon. Designated a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve in 2004. Protected-area status restricts extractive activities including fishing within the marine zone.

License requiredvia Ministere de l'Agriculture, du Developpement rural et de la Peche (MADRP) / Directions de la peche et des ressources halieutiques (wilaya level)

Apply to the local fisheries administration (Direction de la peche et des ressources halieutiques of the coastal wilaya). The application file must include a medical certificate attesting physical fitness to dive and a civil-liability insurance contract for underwater fishing (Article 66, Decree 03-481).
