Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Daedalus Reef (Abu el Kizan).
Isolated oceanic coral reef ~90 km off Marsa Alam within Egypt's Red Sea marine protected-area network. Governed by Law No. 102 of 1983 (reinforced by PM Decree No. 4419 of 2025), which prohibits hunting, fishing, and destruction of corals within the reserve.

Fishing licences are granted by the Agency for the Protection and Development of Lakes and Fish Resources (formerly via the General Authority for Fish Resources Development, GAFRD). Spearfishing is not licensed as a recreational activity and is effectively prohibited.
