How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Marina del Nord de Menorca.
Regional marine reserve along Menorca's northern Tramuntana coast. Spearfishing (pesca submarina) is prohibited throughout the reserve; vessels navigating reserve waters may not carry spearguns (fusiles de pesca submarina). The reserve is zoned: an integral-protection Zone A where all spearfishing and extraction of marine flora/fauna is banned, a Zone B where spearfishing is prohibited except where the Direcció General de Pesca authorizes it, and a Zone C where diving and recreational fishing are allowed with authorization. Whether you need a license to spearfish here, and how to get one.
Apply through the fisheries authority of the relevant coastal Autonomous Community (online or in person). A medical certificate of fitness for underwater/free-diving (issued by a doctor qualified in hyperbaric/underwater medicine), or a valid federation licence covering the medical, plus suitable accident insurance, is generally required. ID (DNI for citizens; NIE/passport for foreigners) and payment of the regional fee are needed.
