Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Marina del Nord de Menorca.

Regional marine reserve along Menorca's northern Tramuntana coast. Spearfishing (pesca submarina) is prohibited throughout the reserve; vessels navigating reserve waters may not carry spearguns (fusiles de pesca submarina). The reserve is zoned: an integral-protection Zone A where all spearfishing and extraction of marine flora/fauna is banned, a Zone B where spearfishing is prohibited except where the Direcció General de Pesca authorizes it, and a Zone C where diving and recreational fishing are allowed with authorization. License requiredvia Competent fisheries authority of the coastal Autonomous Community (órgano competente de la comunidad autónoma del litoral)

Apply through the fisheries authority of the relevant coastal Autonomous Community (online or in person). A medical certificate of fitness for underwater/free-diving (issued by a doctor qualified in hyperbaric/underwater medicine), or a valid federation licence covering the medical, plus suitable accident insurance, is generally required. ID (DNI for citizens; NIE/passport for foreigners) and payment of the regional fee are needed.
