Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Marina dels Freus d'Eivissa i Formentera.

Regional marine reserve (13,617 ha) occupying the channel and waters between southern Ibiza (Punta des Jondal / Punta de sa Mata) and northern Formentera (Punta de sa Gavina / Punta Prima), established by Decreto 63/1999 of 28 May. Underwater fishing (pesca submarina) is prohibited throughout the entire reserve. The integral/special-protection zone east and northeast of the s'Espardell islet has the strictest protection where all resource extraction is banned except for scientific purposes. Representative point in the channel between Ibiza and Formentera.

License requiredvia Competent fisheries authority of the coastal Autonomous Community (órgano competente de la comunidad autónoma del litoral)

Apply through the fisheries authority of the relevant coastal Autonomous Community (online or in person). A medical certificate of fitness for underwater/free-diving (issued by a doctor qualified in hyperbaric/underwater medicine), or a valid federation licence covering the medical, plus suitable accident insurance, is generally required. ID (DNI for citizens; NIE/passport for foreigners) and payment of the regional fee are needed.
