What this zone is
Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Waitabu Marine Park (Taveuni).
A community no-take marine reserve on the fringing reef off Waitabu village, Bouma district, north-eastern Taveuni. In 1998 the Waitabu community declared its customary fishing ground (qoliqoli) a permanent tabu, closing it to all fishing; it is Fiji's oldest community marine park, run for snorkel tourism and conservation as part of the Bouma National Heritage Park and the Fiji Locally Managed Marine Area (FLMMA) network. All extractive fishing, including spearfishing, is prohibited.
