National nature reserve on the sandbanks at the mouth of the Arcachon basin (extended to ~4,360 ha by décret n°2017-945 du 10 mai 2017). Under article 12 of the decree, fishing — explicitly including underwater fishing (pêche sous-marine) — may only be practised if authorized by prefectoral order after scientific-council advice, i.e. it is prohibited by default; in the zones de protection intégrale every activity is banned (art. 6). Atlantic coast.
