Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Réseau national d'aires marines protégées (2017) - 9 parcs marins et 11 réserves aquatiques.
In June 2017 Gabon designated a network of 20 marine protected areas (9 marine parks and 11 aquatic reserves) covering about 53,000 km2 (~26% of its territorial sea and EEZ), the largest in Africa at the time. Inside marine parks, sport fishing, scientific fishing and aquariophily fishing require prior ministerial authorisation (Art. 57); entry with fishing gear or weapons and diving require prior authorisation (Art. 68); sanctuaries protect threatened species with their own access rules (Art. 64).
