What this zone is

Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Strofades Islands (National Marine Park of Zakynthos – Zone Ib).

The Strofades (islands Stamfani and Arpyia), located approximately 50 km south of Zakynthos, form a distinct marine protection zone (Zone Ib) within the National Marine Park of Zakynthos as established by Presidential Decree 906D of 22 December 1999. A 500-metre marine buffer around the islands protects monk seal habitat and seabird colonies; recreational fishing, including spearfishing, is explicitly prohibited in all NMPZ marine zones under the same decree.
