What this zone is
Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Cordelia Bank (Banco Cordelia) Site of Wildlife Importance.
Reef bank off Roatán's southwest coast declared a Site of Wildlife Importance (Sitio de Importancia para la Vida Silvestre) by the ICF Protected Areas Department in May 2012 (~17 km²). Its management plan establishes no-take community marine reserves within the bank, it is managed as a shark sanctuary, and spearfishing is illegal throughout the Bay Islands marine park, so spearfishing is prohibited.
