Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Raja Ampat - Mayalibit Bay MPA (no-take zone).
The first Raja Ampat MPA (customary declaration 15 Nov 2006; ~49,451 ha), covering the enclosed 'inner sea' of Teluk Mayalibit that nearly bisects central Waigeo - a mangrove/seagrass nursery ground. Contains a designated no-take zone where all fishing is prohibited; spearfishing by tourists/visitors is prohibited throughout the Raja Ampat MPA network.
